Zaga Bambo was born and raised in Togo, he is of Algero-Togolese origin. At the age of 7, his father enrolled him in Koranic school; there he is quickly recognized for his singing talent. Without even realizing it, Zaga was training for a future musical career. By the age of 12, Zaga had become the muezzin of the mosque he frequented. He performed daily calls for prayer 5 times a day for 5 years. When he was 17, he started listening to Hip-Hop and RnB music. From then on, he realizes he could reach a new audience and go beyond what he had learned at the mosque. At this time, he visits a local church and discovers musical instruments for the first time. Without any formal training, Zaga Bambo, self-taught, learns to play guitar and piano.
With the recognition he has had in West Africa under the name of Demon Lassi, Zaga Bambo began to develop themes on social justice, carrying his messages of “conquering rebel” in Afro Pop songs. For that, it was censored in Togo; radio and television stopped broadcasting his music between 2011 and 2012. During this time, he spent several months in the capital of West African music, Abidjan, Ivory Coast, working with the famous arranger Bebi Philip and various artists Ivorians before flying to France in late 2012.
Arrived in France, Zaga Bambo preferred to stop the music to focus on his family. In 2016, driven by his passion for music, he returned to the studio. He recorded 9 singles with Paris-based arranger Annabeat. Promoting diversity in his music, Zaga begins to marry Latin influences. It offers new music, a kind of Afrolatin music, Afro-Dance Hall.
In 2017, Zaga returns to West Africa, resuming where he stopped in Abidjan 5 years earlier. His fans were waiting for his re-emergence. His first single, since 2012, “Put the spice” has been talked about in the continent. This song marks a break with the themes of social justice that have earned it a controversial reputation. “Put the spice” is catchy and dancing and makes fun of the struggle of Africans in Europe struggling to find spicy chilli in the middle of bland condiments. In the wake of Put the spice, Zaga Bambo released October 13, a new single called “Tassaba”.
Working with Façonné Music and BBP Team Records, Zaga Bambo is also part of the One Shot collaboration including Bebi Philip. Together, they come out “it sleeps at home”, a title that makes music lovers dance. In early 2018, he released “Ma Cherie Coco” in collaboration with Bebi Philip. The clip is particularly appreciated for its quality and its “pagnifique”, and high colors.
