Adolphe Claude Alexandre Moundi, alias Petit Pays, born June 5, 1967 in Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, is a singer, songwriter and very popular in Cameroon. Nicknamed “the defender advocate for women”, “Rabba Rabbi”, “Effatta” or “The King of Makossa love”, he sings in French, Douala and pidgin on zouk and makossa. His artist name comes from Little was his nickname when he was a child and Country is the literal translation of his surname Moundi. He lives in the Makèpe district of Douala at the Carrefour Petit Pays which bears his name.
Petit-Pays began his professional career in the late 1980s, when he teamed up with producer Eyabé Kwedi. He writes hundreds of songs, some of which have become popular in Cameroon and West Africa. He has released several albums with his group called Les Sans Visas, which he sees as an academy of discovery of young talents: Samy Diko, Xavier Lagaf and Njohreur are from it.
This artist with great genius, and certainly the most prolific of his generation alone has more than 4 gold records and several recognitions on an international scale. He was also golden record in several African countries like Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina and many others.
During his career, Petit-Pays is one of the only ones in Africa to have made so many hits, as many albums as number 1 for African hits for months, etc. Very popular, it fills stadiums packed in Cameroon and West Africa. Being a phenomenon, he makes entries on stage in coffin, on horseback, dressed as a woman, etc.
A star since the end of the 1980s and a Cameroonian icon since 1995, he currently holds the sales record in Cameroon for his Class F / M album, of which fifty thousand copies were sold on the day of his release, never seen in Cameroon.
Petit-Pays remains one of the major figures of Cameroonian and even African music of the last thirty years, despite many controversies. He is also one of the most awarded artists in the history of Cameroonian music. On May 20, 2005, he was awarded a Knight of the Order of Value.
In 2009, he tries an adventure in football, taking the reins of the football club Cayman Club of Douala from 2009 to December 2010, club he managed to move up in the first division in a season.
Unlike many other stars of the African song, Petit Pays decided to live in his native country. He lives in Douala, in the Makèpe district, whose street in this district bears his name.
To date, he is considered to be the most popular artist in Cameroon.
Petit Pays is the author of more than 38 albums, including the latest Wala Longo’o, released in January 2019.
