Born in Dakar, from a Mauritanian father and Senegalese mother, the cultural mixes are very much part of her identity. His life experience turned her into a natural fighter. In her family universe, she was soon rocked by acoustic music of Tracy Chapman that her mom is a fan. As a young child Marema sings. As a young adult, Marema starts composing, writing and singing her own repertoire.
She explores numerous ways to round off her voice. She assiduously attends the cultural centre « Douta Seck », music school in Dakar and after three years she successfully obtains her degree. From there it’s her and her guitar, facing the world. She soon starts working as backing vocalist for renowned Senegalese artists, such as Awadi, Yoro Ndiaye, Edu Bocandé, Metzo Djatah, Takeifa, Idrissa Diop… Until the day the talented and internationally known musician Mao Otayeck (Alpha Blondy, Salif Keita, Stevie Wonder), notices her, encourages her and decides to support her in the recording of her first solo album. Hardly her first single « Femme d’affaires » released, she win Jury Prize StarAfrica Sounds 2014. She’s also finalist : Prix Découvertes RFI and AFRICAN MUSIC AWARDS in the category BEST FEMALE ARTISTE IN AFRICAN INSPIRATIONAL MUSIC.
Marema on stage is a gift of simplicity, ease and fullness. She mastered it so well from the beginning that very quickly she was invited to be opening act for internationally renown artists, such as : Imany, Carlou D, Omar Pene, Viviane Ndour,…
Since then, Marema keeps on gratifying her public with beautiful performances, enhanced by sublime lyrical and acoustic wanderings.
Far from being yet another artist, Marema is a new gain for our universal musical heritage.
