Locko, whose real name is Charles Arthur Locko, is a Cameroonian RnB and Afropop artist who has made a name for himself on the African and international music scenes. Born on May 8, 1992 in Douala, he hails from the Littoral region and lives in Yaoundé. He began his career singing and directing the LBA school choir and posting covers of popular songs on YouTube, under the pseudonym Shawmey Locko.
In 2014, he joined the Big Dreams Entertainment label and released his debut single Perfect Girl, in collaboration with Numerica. In 2015, he changed his stage name to simply Locko. He releases his first solo single Margo, which meets with immediate success. He followed this up with a string of hits including Ndutu, Sawa Romance, Supporter (with Mr Leo), Je serai là, Hein Hein Hein (with Singuila), Booboo, Let Go and Mêmes mêmes choses.
He has released two EPs: Skyzo in 2015 and Cloud 9 in 2019. He has also released two albums: The Bridge in 2017 and ERA in 2020. He has collaborated with many African artists such as Stanley Enow, Tzy Panchak, Kiff No Beat, Shado Chris, Youssoupha, Gaz Mawete and Blaaz. He took part in the 2017 Coke Studio Africa show, where he rubbed shoulders with American singer Jason Derulo.
He has won several local and international awards, such as Best Male Artist at the Balafon Music Awards in 2016, Best RnB Artist at the Canal 2’Or Act 11 in 2017 and Best Francophone Artist at the AFRIMMA Awards in 2018. He is considered one of the most beautiful voices in Cameroon and Africa.
In 2018, he signed with Universal Music Africa, then in 2023, he signed a publishing and distribution contract with Sony Music Africa and Columbia France. He is currently working on his third album, due for release in 2024.
Locko is a complete artist, mastering singing, writing, composing and producing. He also plays piano and guitar. His varied musical style is a blend of RnB, afropop, soul and reggae influences. He sings in French, English and pidgin. He tackles themes such as love, daily life and motivation.
Locko is a success story for Cameroonian and African youth. He has made a name for himself in the music world thanks to his talent, perseverance and creativity. He is also committed to social and humanitarian causes, such as the fight against malaria and the promotion of education.
