A native of DR Congo, Barbara KANAM is one of the most beautiful female voices in Africa.
After brilliant studies in international trade, she began singing in 1991 by singing the repertoires of the great voices of the world song in the great orchestra “Devotion” and perfecting her technique of singing in the prestigious school “Psalmody Académy” in Johannesburg (South Africa). At the same time, she learns to play guitar. At the end of thirteen (13) months, she mastered the instrument with which she created an acoustic repertoire for a “One Woman Acoustic Show” in Central Africa (1993).
In 1995 fate took her to settle in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) where she decided to try an experiment: being in a religious choir. She joined the “GRACE” choir of Cocody and sang regularly at the church.
In parallel, she continued her studies and obtained in 1997 her BTS in international trade.
The following year, with producer KONE Dodo, she released her first album “MOKILI” on the record market, which allowed her to become known to the general public and win her first nomination for the Kora.
This was followed in 2003 by his second album “TETI”, which opened the doors to international recognition.
She undertakes tours throughout the African continent and in Europe.
At the same time, it receives different distinctions:
• KORA AWARDS for Best Female Girl in Johannesburg (2003)
• KUNDE D’Or of the best female artist of Central Africa in Ouagadougou (2004).
• TAMANI D’Or of the best female hope of Central Africa in Bamako (2004)
In 2005 a reissue of the title “BIBI MADELEINE” is made by the producer Kiki Touré and sees there the participation of the producer-arranger Edgar YONKEU. This song will be a huge success with a wide diffusion through the African, Caribbean and European media especially in France. Barbara KANAM will receive at the MUSIC BLACK AWARDS in Cotonou (2005) a prize for female revelation and best clip.
In 2006, Fally Ipupa invited him for a featuring in his album DROIT CHEMIN in the title 100% love.
In 2009, the now Diva African prepares under its own label KANAM Music a new opus “KARIBU” which means Welcome in Swahili.
In 2010 she received the “best female voice” award and a special trophy for the “best diaspora artist”. On September 22, 2012, Barbara Kanam performed for the first time in PARIS live on the NEW scene MORNING, a real success …
In 2015, the African Diva releases its latest opus “Zawadi” which means Diamond, under its label KANAM Music.
