AfrotroniX is a character belonging to the Afro futuristic world of pop music. Created and developed by the musician Caleb Rimtobaye, the character makes his first auto appearance produced on November 15, 2014 at the SAT (Society of Technological Arts) of Montreal.
Before AfrotroniX, Caleb Rimtobaye, based in Montreal, started out as the singer and guitarist of Montreal band H’Sao. At the instigation of the American director Brian Kennedy, he then climbs AfrotoniX, a project that shakes conventions.
Before each performance, the Chadian-born Montrealer puts on his clean-cut uniform and his unique design helmet (Afrotron), a modern variant of a traditional headdress given to the youth of his tribe (the Sara people) to mark their passage to the world. ‘adulthood. He inscribes African music in the era of digital creation by fusing electronic music with African rhythms and Touareg blues. Allegory of the new Africa, AfrotroniX tends to deconstruct the commonly conveyed image of the African continent. Performer, he transports and restores in his shows, the creative dynamism of the city of Montreal and the richness of the Chadian cultural heritage. The AfrotroniX show evolves to the rhythm of an original creation mixing DJing, live instruments and choreographic Afro-urban performances in a futuristic visual universe between science and fiction.
The shows then multiplied. Caleb collaborated with many artists, such as Mbongwana Star or Young Paris, and he collaborated on the production of Vieux Farka Touré’s latest album.
