Aṣa, born in September 17, 1982 is a Nigerian French singer, songwriter, and recording artist. Her stage name “Aṣa” means “Hawk” in Yoruba.
After living for six years in Paris, his family returned to Nigeria and settled in Lagos (Aṣa was then 2 years old). Aṣa follows the courses in the music school opened by British saxophonist Peter King. In 2004, after having sent a model to the AFAA, she participated in the project “Assata” and returned to France to give concerts.
At the end of 2006, she signed a contract with the French label Naïve Records. Her first album, which she gives her name, is recorded and mixed by Christophe Dupouy at the studio Le Chantier in Montreuil, and released the following year. Aṣa sings in English and Yoruba, accompanied by jazz flutist Malik Mezzadri. The album receives the Constantin Prize in 2008 and sells more than 300,000 copies.
After several successful tours, including the album Live in Paris and many collaborations (Tiken Jah Fakoly, Yannick Noah), Asa released a new album under the label Naïve Records entitled Beautiful Imperfection.
His fourth album, Bed of Stone, was released on August 25, 2014.
