Koppo is a Cameroonian rapper, radio host and actor born on January 16, 1976 in Yaoundé. He is considered the pioneer of text-based music in Camfranglais, a slang that blends French, English, pidgin and local Cameroonian languages. His musical style is a blend of hip hop and traditional rhythms.
Koppo began his artistic career as an actor, taking part in TV shows and films. In 2003, he launched his musical career by accompanying the group Macase in a concert with Manu Dibango. The following year, he released his first album, Si tu vois ma go, which enjoyed huge success thanks to the eponymous track, which became a national hit. The album also includes songs such as Emma, Confessions, J’en ai marre (a duet with Charlotte Dipanda) and Foe (a tribute to footballer Marc-Vivien Foe).
After a long absence from the music scene, Koppo returned in 2017 with a single entitled Gromologie, heralding his new album Ebotan, released in 2020 on Motbinama International Records. The album contains 12 tracks, including Together (featuring Magasco), Laisse comme ça and Je go.
Koppo is a committed artist, denouncing the ills of Cameroonian society with humor and derision. He uses Camfranglais as a means of expression and identity assertion. He is also a popular radio host, presenting Chez Koppo on Kalak FM.
