Pongo
PONGO embodies the renewal of Kuduro, mixing her African, Langan & Zairian roots with EDM, bass music, dancehall & melodic pop. Her powerful, rhythmic, but equally fragile & sensitive voice draws us into her world, on the borders of dance & saudade, where no one has taken us before.
Born in the district of La Cuca in Angola, Pongo carries in her the history of her country of origin. After experiencing the violence of a country in civil war, it was at the age of eight that she went into exile with her family in Portugal.
As a teenager, Pongo joins the group: The “Denon Squad”, first as a dancer, then behind the microphone during neighborhood concerts. She discovers the lively nights of Lisbon and discovers a new sound in full swing, the kuduro. The meeting with the group Buraka Som Sistema and his first appearance on stage in the mythical “Music Box” of Cais de Sodré will considerably change the life of Pongo. Everything goes very fast, she will accompany the group in a tour that will make them play in the largest cities and festivals on the planet.
After touring around the world, she now takes off solo.
